We think Ballina and the Northern Rivers area of Tropical NSW is a great place to holiday!
Here are some of our suggestions for things to do in and around Ballina. We have included all our favourites - but as you'll find out when you arrive, there's always something new to discover.
If you're here for the weekend then you must check out our famous local markets! They move across the region each Sunday - and we can always help you to find them. Market Guide.
Take in the surf and seaside village atmosphere of Lennox Head, stopping for a picnic at the Tea Tree stained Lake Ainsworth. Make sure you take in the magnificent views on a walk to the lighthouse, spend some time on Ballina's pristine beaches, and stroll along River Street where you can pick up a bargain and a great coffee!
If you can stay a week then be sure and take in some of Ballina's unique attractions. The Macadamia Castle and Thursday Tea Tree plantation will keep adults and children alike amused for hours. The village of Alstonville, 20 minutes away, sports a quaint town centre and is close to the House With No Steps which provides a relaxing interlude in some of the areas most beautiful grounds and is ideal for the kids and the elderly. Close by is the Victoria Park Nature Reserve where you can explore pockets of pristine rainforest. Our sister towns of Lismore and Byron Bay are well worth exploring.
Lismore is the hub of the Northern Rivers area and has more than its fair share of antiques, galleries, shopping and eating treats. Each second Sunday, Lismore is host to a mammoth car boot market.
Whilst you're in Byron Bay, don't miss the famous Lighthouse, also consider a kayaking trip around Cape Byron. If you're lucky you'll get to see dolphins and whales on your trip. For the underwater enthusiasts, Julian Rocks has some of Australia's best diving and snorkelling experiences, and for those whose ambitions are further skyward there are choices of hang-gliding at Lennox Head or parachuting at Tyagarah. A side-trip to the town of Bangalow will please the antique fossickers.
We're also less than an hour from colourful Nimbin or the Channon and some of this area's most spectacular natural wonders and parks.
If you can stay longer consider a cruise up the Richmond River, a couple of days fishing from the sea wall, getting an enviable tan at Flat Rock Beach, learning to surf (or reacquainting yourself with the ocean), spending some time on the green with Ballina and Royal Teven golf courses only minutes away, or just jump in the car and 15 minutes in any direction is the beginning of a tour or the beautiful North Coast Hinterland.
Of course we always have the latest information about attractions and activities in our reception area - if you need any advice or suggestions, just ask us!
A full restaurant / takeaway list is available from the reception.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
